Dinosoar Motorsports Academy offers a very wide range of driver education and training. These training blocks include both "classroom" instruction and behind-the-wheel training. We don't do typical driver education instruction like parallel parking, use of turn signals, or other basic tasks. We teach how to manage a car at extreme levels of control, to include some loss of of control. We teach real accident avoidance, how to regain control, and how to be smooth and fast. This is not done a excessive speeds, however. We design our training vehicle to exceed control at much slower speeds than would be on the highway. This allows us to maximize safety and instruction as the training vehicle is much more dynamic than a fast, tight sports or race car.
Check out some of our training modules. Many of these would be taught together as part of a modular training plan tailored to your specific needs:
- Vehicle Dynamics
- Car Control
- Teen Driver / New Driver Training
- Basic Vehicle Operation (vehicle specific)
- Advanced Performance Driving
- Basic Race Driving Techniques
- Defensive Driving and Surviving Traffic (on street driving required)
- Hostile-Environment Driving Techniques
- Surveillance Detection Driving (on street driving required)
- Driving in the Snow
- Manual Transmission skills (basic and advanced)
We present the above training courses for YOUR current level, not as a prepackaged class for a group of students. Our behind-the-wheel training is one-on-one, so the course is all about you and making you better. The training goals are determined by you and not "preset" as they are with a class of students at many driving schools you've probably looked at. We utilize both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction to make you better.
Below is a list of some of our behind-the-wheel drills we use to teach Vehicle Dynamics and Car Control:
- Threshold Braking/ABS Braking
- Emergency Lane Change
- Full-throttle Acceleration in a Turn
- Slalom
- Figure "8"
- The Apex Drill
- Precision Backing
- Hyper Apex Drill (Threshold Braking into Apex into Acceleration out of a Turn)
OUR TRAINING APPROACH:
When you bring your car, or a rental, don't worry about wear and tear so much, nor a helmet. We do not exceed 60 MPH for our drills, and we utilized large parking lots, or similar, so there is no running off the track. This should make your insurance company happy too! We also will make available, for an additional cost, use of the Dinosoar Motorsports training vehicle. This vehicle is a smaller, lightweight vehicle tuned to have a low threshold of grip. This will allow the trainee to exceed the limits of the car at lower speeds. When you exceed the limits of a car, you'll learn the essence of car control and how to regain that control. This is the key to truly managing a vehicle safely. You can also do a combination of using our car and your personal car.
We teach three main skills to advance driving; 1) Awareness 2) Predictive Driving 3) Car Control. Awareness refers to the practice of being aware of your surroundings, 360 degrees, all the time. Granted, being aware of everything, all the time is the objective, but is not often achieved due to multi-tasking and dynamic driving scenarios. But every task should be operating the vehicle, not texting or tuning the stereo, for example. Predictive Driving, much like in aviation, is the idea of "being mentally ahead of the vehicle" and knowing what you're going to do before you have to do it. Predictive Driving requires Awareness, so the driver can analyze, and plan to operate the vehicle safely and effectively. These two must work symbiotically for the best results. Being safe is not only slowing down, but managing throttle, steering inputs as well. You may likely even find these two techniques will ease your fuel bill somewhat. The third skill is Car Control. While we will take you out on the road to demonstrate being Awareness and Predictive Driving, we'll spend most of our behind-the-wheel time doing Car Control drills. The serpentine, evasive maneuvers and the hairpin exercise are some of the few drill we do. In the end, when you use all three of these skills, you'll be a safer, more capable driver. This is our goal.
We offer a very wide range of driver training topics. We generally do not teach non-licensed drivers how to get a license; though we highly recommend driver students train with us before they get their license; we don't reach rules of the road but the rules of physics behind the wheel. Our courses are for those who already drive and want advanced training. However, we do offer a course for for newly licensed drivers, but focuses on advanced driver techniques all same. This course is typically focused on a specific driver experience level and age. For new drivers, we utilize a training approach the breaks the task of driving into two main duties; managing the car, managing the road. In our training, we work with the new driver in their car to become completely comfortable and fully competent in handling their car. So, when the driver gets on the road, they can focus on the road and traffic, not where the radio buttons and turn signals are.
We can do a free consultation to determine where you are and where you'd like to be, and offer you a training regiment that is tailor made for what you want. We utilize multiple options for conducting classroom instruction, and for our behind-the-wheel training we utilize open asphalt "skidpads" (e.g. large parking lots) with set courses (see drills above) utilizing cones for our driving exercises. We do not conduct high-speed drills, so our training is safe and you won't damage your car...or ours!
